Wheel Alignment at Brown Motors Petoskey

Wheel alignment, also known as tire alignment, can help your tires perform properly and help them last longer.  It can also improve handling and keep your vehicle from pulling in one direction or vibrating strangely on the road.

What Is Wheel Alignment?

Alignment refers to an adjustment of a vehicle's suspension - the system that connects a vehicle to it's wheels.  It is not an adjustment of the tires or wheels themselves.  The key to proper alignment is adjusting the angles of the tires which affects how they make contact with the road.

Do I Need a Tire Alignment?

Brown Motors Mechanics Use
Computerized Alignment Machine

A car alignment is actually an elaborate process that brings the car's suspension into it's proper configuration by positioning and adjusting components so that wheels are aligned with one another and the road surface. Brown Motors Technicians use a competerized alignment machine that features clamplike devices attached to the wheels of the car (which is raised up off the ground on the hoist) and that link to a computer that helps make precise measurements.

An alignment essentially requires squaring a car's wheels and axles which each other so that they're moving in the same direction.  The mechanic adjuste the various suspension angles - known as toe, thrust, camber, and caster - that influence tire movement and position. The technician will also ensure that the steering wheel is centered.
